Robinson Bridge Repairs Begin July 19

There’s no question that time and gravity take a toll on the best of bridges and that includes the Robinson Bridge on the Lynn Valley Trail.

July 20, 2021

There’s no question that time and gravity take a toll on the best of bridges and that includes the Robinson Bridge on the Lynn Valley Trail.

The Robinson Bridge has developed a saggy mid-section because of a deteriorating beam. There’s no immediate danger but this is important trail infrastructure. The upshot is that the Lynn Valley Trail will close at the Decou Road entrance as well as the Ireland Road entrance and the west end of Robinson Bridge on July 19. There will be a temporary detour around the trail closure using Decou Road and Ireland Road.

The work is scheduled to take two to four days at which point the trail will reopen.

Mark Gamble Haulage and Excavating will undertake the work. The company will start with clearing the undergrowth and removing decking boards to allow access to the underside of the bridge. Removal and replacement of the damaged beam will take place once the bridge has been safely jacked up. LVTA board member, Paul Beischlag, is the Project Lead and has been the liaison with Vallee Engineering, Norfolk County and Mark Gamble Haulage and Excavating, and is expecting to be on site throughout the process.

Until the work is finished there will be signs and barriers at the trail entrances at Decou Road, Ireland Road, and the west end of Robinson Bridge. LVTA Board Members will be on site at the Ireland Road entrance both July 19 and 20 to answer questions and inform users of the detours. Please respect the signs and stay clear of the closed section of the trail during this period of construction.
